Project Description

This office building project includes 34,000 sq ft of office space over four stories of underground parking.

Hospice of the Valley (HOV) provides outpatient and residential hospice care throughout the Phoenix metro area. LRD’s architects prepared a feasibility study in early 2007 to look for ways to centralize HOV’s charting, counseling and record keeping functions. The administrative functions were located in a renovated mid-century school building adjacent to the proposed site. Although that building was expanded in 2005, HOV had quickly outgrown the facility and needed to expand its office and parking capabilities.

LRD designed a new two-story building that forms an edge along 16th Street in Phoenix, AZ and includes four levels of underground parking. The plaza is directly linked via a pedestrian path to the adjacent administrative building. The new building mimics features of the adjacent building with the use of the original brick and a contemporary screen on the east and west facades. The interior space is organized in open neighborhoods, taking advantage of natural light from both sides of the building. The ceiling is designed using variable materials and lighting to create definition in an otherwise open space. Conference and training rooms are enclosed in a glass storefront to maintain an open feeling. Environmentally friendly materials such as wood, cork and recycled carpet tiles are used throughout the building.
