Hospice of the Valley-Sherman Home Expansion

Project Description

This project expands an existing 12 bed hospice, using sustainable design and green materials.

Hospice of the Valley (HOV), one of the nation’s largest and oldest hospice providers, offers outpatient and residential hospice care throughout the Phoenix metro area. This project began as a feasibility study to determine whether a new 12-16 bed facility could be accommodated on a site on the Mayo Campus. HOV occupies an existing one story building adjacent to the proposed site. LRD provided assistance during the initial phase to determine the maximum buildable area on the site, review several possible locations for a new building and determine how to increase parking and accommodate service access.

The new building is organized around pods of patient rooms, all with access to private gardens and views. A primary nurse station and support is centrally located between the four pods with satellite nurse stations located at each end. In addition to patient rooms and support, the building includes a family living room, media room, kitchen, administrative offices, counseling rooms and training rooms.
