La Posada at Park Centre Garden Homes

Project Description

These homes are intended to be the most sustainably designed senior housing on La Posada’s campus, utilizing advances in eco-friendly materials, efficient systems, water harvesting and solar panels.

La Posada is a continuing care retirement community on a 125-acre site in Green Valley, AZ. LRD’s architects worked with La Posada’s staff on modifications to their existing master site plan. The client wanted to ensure that any proposed expansion of services preserve the open, rural character of the site and employed sustainable design practices.

Within the master plan, a site for 36 new detached homes was selected and LRD designed model homes ranging from 1,500-2,000 sq ft. The homes are organized in clusters of six along Park Centre Drive and near common dining facilities in the adjacent apartment building. The clusters feature circular shaded parking courts and garages attached to each home. To facilitate the residents’ desire to enjoy the outdoors, each home is surrounded by patios, open or shaded, with a trellis depending on the orientation.

The project will include a “Green Belt” behind the homes with direct access to pedestrian paths. This will encourage seniors to stay active by walking to activities on other parts of the campus, and by avoiding use of their cars.
